Fundraising event in May 2009 : Public lecture featuring Kirsty Sword-Gusmao and Steve Bracks
There will be no Library Books for Timor-Leste Trivia night this year but there is something very special happening in support of Timorese libraries that you can be part of on Monday 11 May 2009, 6.30pm at the Village Roadshow Theatrette, State Library of Victoria. Please find a link below to a flier promoting a joint Library Books for Timor-Leste and State Library of Victoria fundraising event: Libraries and Learning in Timor-Leste: a public lecture featuring Kirsty Sword Gusmao and Steve Bracks. It will be an informative and inspiring event for all who attend and a practical way to support the ongoing development needs of Timor-Leste's libraries. The entry fee is $25 with all funds to go to the Library Books for Timor-Leste Fund supporting library collections and skills acquisition for libraries and in Timor-Leste. February 2008: Come and enjoy an evening of Intrepid travel tales told by some of our favourite librarians. You will be taken on an armchair tour of some of the best destinations in the world, including Africa, Vietnam and China. Tickets are $25 per head, and all funds raised will go directly to helping libraries and communities in East Timor. This fun event will be held on Friday February 22nd 2008, at the Northcote Town Hall, and bookings can be made through committee member Beth McKenzie by phone: 0400 833 550, or email: beth.mckenzie@maribyrnong.vic.gov.au. Prizes will be awarded on the night for 'the best decorated table with a travel theme', and the best travel photograph - so bring some friends and your favourite holiday pic along!

The 3rd Library Books for East Timor Trivia Night held on Friday 6 October 2006 exceeded expectations and raised over $24,000. The funds will be used to support several libraries in East Timor including Atauro Library, Dili Institute of Technology's Library Studies course, Baucau Friendship and Learning Centre Library and the AlphaSame Literacy Project. A very big thanks to the working group, volunteers, sponsors, supporters and of course the participants who made the night such a great success.

The second ever Library Books for East Timor Trivia Night was held on 29 April 2005. Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, and just under 400 attendees, a tremendous $27,630 was raised. With musical inspiration
provided by the Dili Allstars and great entertainment by Master of Ceremonies extraordinaire Brian Nankervis, a great time was had by all. Libraries in East Timor to benefit from our fundraising efforts this year are: Xanana Gusmao Reading Room, Baucau Public Library, Baucau Friendship and Learning Centre, Atauro Island Library, National University Library, Lolotoe Junior High School and Community Library and a literacy based project for schools in Same. Plans are underway for a similar event in future and we very interested in hearing from you if you are able to participate as a sponsor, contributor, attendee or volunteer worker.

The inaugural Library Books for East Timor Trivia Night was held on 30 April 2004. An amazing $31,004 was raised thanks to the generous support of sponsors and attendees. Master of Ceremonies Brian Nankervis and musical group Dili Allstars provided the entertainment for 400 people present at the very successful and exciting. Libraries in East Timor to which the funds raised were directed in 2004 were Xanana Gusmao Reading Room,
National University Library, Baucau Public Library, Atauro Island Library
and Manatuto Public Library.
